Thailand BOI shortens quarterly progress report deadline to 30 days.
Thailand’s Board of Investment (BOI) now requires quarterly progress reports to be submitted within 30 days of each quarter end, down from the 60 days previously allowed. The change applies to all BOI-promoted companies still in the implementation phase, from certificate issuance until the operating licence is granted.
This update sets out the current submission schedule, the compliance risks of missing a deadline and the steps promoted companies should take to stay on track.
Current submission deadlines
Reports are filed through the BOI e-Monitoring system on the following schedule.
| Reporting period | Period covered | Submission deadline |
|---|---|---|
| Q1 | January to March | 30 April |
| Q2 | April to June | 30 July |
| Q3 | July to September | 30 October |
| Q4 | October to December | 30 January (following year) |
Companies that receive their promotion certificate partway through a quarter are not required to file for that quarter, with their first obligation arising in the following reporting period. The annual performance report, due each year within July until the BOI certificate is terminated, is unaffected by this change.
Risk of suspension or revocation
Missing a single quarterly deadline may result in suspension of access to the BOI privileges and benefits system, with automatic reinstatement once the overdue report is submitted. Missing two consecutive reporting periods may lead to revocation of BOI privileges and benefits altogether. With reporting now on a quarterly cycle and a shorter filing window, that two consecutive failure threshold can be reached faster than under earlier reporting arrangements, leaving less room to identify and correct gaps before a deadline passes.
Preparing for the shorter reporting window
Promoted companies should confirm that internal finance and operations workflows can produce a compliant report within 30 days of quarter end. Practical steps include confirming e-Monitoring system access for the right personnel, assigning clear ownership of report preparation and building data capture into ongoing operations rather than treating it as a quarter end task.
Where a third-party adviser manages BOI filings, early coordination well ahead of each deadline is advisable given the reduced buffer. Companies with an active BOI promotion certificate should assess how the revised timeline applies to their specific project stage.
