Destination Thailand Visa.
The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) is designed to facilitate remote or freelance work for foreign nationals wanting to spend time experiencing life in Thailand while working on their overseas businesses.
Passport validity: The applicant’s passport must be valid for at least six months after the intended exit date from Thailand.
Financial proof: Sufficient funds of at least THB 500,000 must be demonstrated in a bank account to support a six-month stay in Thailand.
Proof of employment or business ownership: The applicant must provide documentation demonstrating their employment status or ownership of a business outside of Thailand. Working for a company in Thailand is not allowed with this visa.
Age requirement: The applicant must be at least 20 years of age at the time of application.
The DTV visa reflects Thailand’s recognition of evolving global work trends and encourages engagement with its cultural landscape. This visa is available for workcations or ‘soft power’ activities.
Additionally, the visa extends its benefits to accommodate the spouses and children under 20 of DTV holders, ensuring families can join and enjoy their stay together in Thailand.
Workcations: Digital nomads, remote workers, foreign talent and freelancers
Participation in Thai soft power-related activities: E.g. Muay Thai training, Thai culinary courses, medical treatment, seminars, music festivals and sports training
Application process and required documents.
1. Workcation
(digital nomads/remote workers/foreign talent/freelancers)
- Passport biodata page or travel document (must be valid within six months from the travel date)
- A recent photo of the applicant (taken within the past six months)
- Document indicating current location, such as a driving licence, bank statement or proof of stay
- A recent savings or checking bank statement that shows a minimum ending balance of THB 500,000 (USD 16,000), dated and in the applicant’s name. For a family bank statement, include proof of relationship such as a birth or marriage certificate.
- An employment contract or certificate from the applicant’s country or professional portfolio showcasing digital nomad, remote worker, foreign talent or freelancer status
2. Thai ‘soft power’ activities
(e.g., Muay Thai, Thai culinary training and medical treatment)
- Passport biodata page or travel document (must be valid within six months from the travel date)
- A recent photo of the applicant (taken within the past six months)
- Document indicating current location, such as a driving licence, bank statement or proof of stay
- A recent savings or checking bank statement that shows a minimum ending balance of THB 500,000 (USD 16,000), dated and in the applicant’s name. For a family bank statement, include proof of relationship such as a birth or marriage certificate.
- Letter of acceptance from the institute or company organising activities, or letter of appointment from a hospital or medical centre
3. Spouses and children of DTV visa holders
(children must be under 20 years of age)
- Passport biodata page or travel document (must be valid within six months from the travel date)
- A recent photo of the applicant (taken within the past six months)
- Document indicating current location, such as a driving licence, bank statement or proof of stay
- A recent savings or checking bank statement that shows a minimum ending balance of THB 500,000 (USD 16,000), dated and in the applicant’s name. For a family bank statement, include proof of relationship such as a birth or marriage certificate.
- Personal details of the DTV visa holder (i.e., valid government-issued ID card, passport biodata page and the DTV visa approval) and proof of relationship to the DTV visa holder, such as a copy of marriage certificate, birth certificate or certificate of adoption
- For applicants under 20 years of age, the following additional documents are required:
- Copy of a birth certificate
- Copy of parent’s marriage certificate. A notarised copy of the court order must be provided in case of sole custody.
- Copy of passports or ID of mother and father or legal guardians
- Original notarised consent letter for minors travelling abroad, signed by both parents or legal guardians if the applicant is travelling alone
