Serving food and operating a restaurant in Thailand necessitates acquiring a food & restaurant license for your business.

Food and restaurant
license application.
The Thailand food & restaurant license application consists of the following steps:
- Provide the required documents to the district officer
- Once the application has been submitted, we’ll contact the officer to make an appointment for him/her to check the restaurant. Based on this, additional documents might be required. Note that the employees should be present to explain certain food making processes
- Every Thai employee additionally will have to go for a test at the district office (50 multiple choice questions, of which 40 have to be answered correctly). It concerns questions about hygiene etc. The officer will provide each employee with a small book which they can study.
- Upon confirmation that everything is in order (both the supplied documents, the restaurant itself and the employees’ tests), the officer will issue the food license (which may take up to one month). At this stage, the government fee will have to be paid.
Required documents.
The following documents will have to be supplied:
A logo of the trademark in the exact color
- House Registration of the building
- Original consent letter or copy of the lease agreement (affixed with a duty stamp)
- Copy of the ID card and house registration of the director of the company
- Copy of the ID card and house registration of the owner of the business
- Power of Attorney
- Completed and signed application form (SorAor1)
- Map of location
- Photos (print out) in front of and inside the restaurant
- Layout of the restaurant (interior plan) (แบบของร้าน ว่ามีอะไรวางตรงไหนบ้าง เช่น ครัว โต๊ะ)
- Square meters of the whole restaurant (incl. tables, kitchen, counter etc.)
- Documents proving the ownership (on a case by case basis), such as the sale and purchase agreement, title deed (all pages) or construction permit
Government fees.
Government fee which is calculated based on the square meters of the restaurant:
- Up to 10 square meters: 100 THB
- More than 10 square meters: add 5 THB per square meter
- Between 200 and 300 square meters: 2,000 THB
- More than 300 square meters: add 5 THB per square meter
- The government fee is limited to 3,000 THB
Note that the food license needs to be renewed every calendar year (valid until December 31).
